Green Finger facts

green fingers facts
  • Making compost from kitchen and garden waste can reduce 50% of all refuse going to landfill.
  • About 1/3 of the average household bin is filled with green waste.
  • An average person throws away 74 kg of organic waste each year, which is the same as 1077 banana skins.

How is Green Waste Recycled?

  • You can recycle your green waste by either using your large green wheelie bin so it can be taken to a central processing plant (where it can then be composted instead of taking up valuable space in landfill sites) or composting your green waste in your garden.
  • See how to make your own compost by going to the composting cycle in the Low Down section.
