The Compoast Cycle Three

the compost cycle
arrow

See the composting cycle below to learn about how to make compost.

Step1.

Compost can be made in your garden using dead plants, leaves which have fallen from trees, branches (as long as they have been made into wood chippings or sawdust), vegetable peelings and grass cuttings.

Step10.

When added to your garden it will help your plants grow because of all the nutrients within it.

Step2.

You can keep adding items whenever you like throughout the whole process.

Step9.

You will know the compost is ready when it has turned into a rich dark brown soil like material. This can then be put onto your garden.

Step3.

Make sure the materials are in small pieces to help the decomposition process.

Step8.

When the compost cools down check it.

Step4.

Layer the bin with green waste (grass cuttings or vegetable waste) and brown waste (wood chippings, sawdust or dead leaves).

Step7.

You may find your compost gets very hot. This means the materials are decomposing.

Step5.

Make sure each layer is damp (about the same amount of water you would find in a rung out sponge).

Step6.

Turn the compost heap every so often to make sure there is enough air getting to the materials to break them down into compost.
